Ouch! What is that?

If you have every experienced painful, itching, and burning in the rectum or anus, you may have experienced hemorroids. What exactly are they and what brings them on? Hemmorroids happen when the veins in the rectum and anus become swollen and inflamed. Most people will first notice bright red blood in their stool or on the toilet paper after they wipe. If the hemorroid sticks outside of the body it can be painful and uncomfortable to sit or even walk.

Hemorroids can be caused by straining when pooping, harsh wiping or scratching, and/or harsh cleaning in or around the anal opening. Constipation can lead to hemorroids also. As can sitting for long periods of time. It’s a good idea to drink more liquids and add more fiber to your diet. Exercises will help keep you moving, especially if you sit most of the day. The most important thing to remember is stop straining when on the toilet.
